Calcutta, the City of Joy, had been in the forefront in many of India’s struggle against dominance and for socio-literary renaissance and reformation. Similar in many ways, a Keralite and Bengali are synonymous in several of their views and approaches. The fields of art, painting, vegetation and food habits, complexion and dress, all have more similarities than variations. And hence when the will of Nairs residing in Calcutta wanted to harmonise their common heritage, it gave utterance to what we see today: Calcutta Nair Service Society.
